When you look back at the most memorable games (for the right reasons), there aren't that many that spring to mind, half a dozen perhaps, but for most of us this will be one of those for some time to come. Whenever you play a reserve side, your always anxiously looking at the fixture list for that day, to make sure that the first team are playing. Early on in the morning, we realised that Mulladween's first team weren't. At first you feel cheated, it's almost unfair that a match as important as this one was, would favour the one with two teams. The determination in the dressing room for us to go out there and give this the best we've got was encouraging. Football is all in the mind and after this performance we proved just how true that is. We will probably never know how many of Mulladween's first team played in this game, but our performance was superb, certainly our best for some time. If we played like this week in, week out, we would be challenging for the division 9 title, there is no doubt about it. There is an underlying quality in our team, but not enough of us have enough confidence in our own abilities, that would probably explain how we are good one week and so poor the next. If we can find just a few players to strengthen certain positions, then next season might be our best yet, but then we've been optimistic too often in the past and been proven badly wrong . Richie has had a steady consistent season, amazingly until today, despite featuring in many Man of the Matches, he hadn't won a single one. however after this fantastic performance, he ensured that the hoodoo was broken. Two great goals, the first a firm shot which thumped off the post and the second ..... but there were quality performances all over the pitch Leo and Dan were strong at the back, Geoff kept his first clean sheet and the whole side pulled together to win, in one of the best performances of recent times. |
