Damien looks like his about to attempt an overhead kick. Stop copying Springy Dame After last weeks below-par performance against Torres, it was good to see us restoring a bit of normality, as we came away with a very satisfying victory, which may well be crucial in our bid to come runner-ups in division 10. Our last encounter against Cheam Rangers was full of entertainment value and today's encounter nearly equaled that. The most comical moment was when the Cheam goalkeeper, had had enough of his team mates slagging him off, so he threw his gloves on the ground and stormed off in a tantrum, demanding that someone else does the honour of playing between the sticks. He eventually calmed down and carried on playing. We again scored another handful of goals and again some of them were of a very high caliber. Another similarity to the last encounter was also sadly more soft goals let in by ourselves. We couldn't have got off to much of a better start, after Springy hit a cracking overhead kick with two minutes gone, to give us an immediate advantage. We started off lively for the first 6-7 minutes, but then slowly got sloppy again and we were eventually punished as Cheam equalised through a poor defensive error, when everyone thought that everyone else had the ball covered - disappointing! We had enough help from Fergie on the sidelines. He was quite right to shout at the back-line, as they were all too often, far to slow to push up and were therefore needlessly playing Cheam on-side. Springy however put us back in front before half-time with a good finish from a firey run. The second half was where it all happened. We looked better in this half and it was the half where we did the most damage. Springy grabbed his hat-trick with a great header from Gunes' perfectly aimed long cross - another fine goal. Springy then grabbed goal number 4. You have to go back over a year to find the last time a DCFC player achieved this (Glenn Fergie v. Mitcham Strollers, January 2002). So that was enough, this was beginning to get silly, this chap is scoring too many goals, the only sensible thing to do was to take him off! You're not getting five son! There was more to follow as Glen scored a cracking fifth, neatly finishing after a quick burst of pace. Number six was another great goal as Nick got back to the business of scoring, as he ran on to Richie's flick-on, to use pace and cap it all with a beautiful finish. Maybe a five goal lead was over-flattering, so after some more sloppy defending Cheam got their second, Shirin said it was a fair consolation, but there was no need to give it away Shaz! A great result that sees us beat one of the stronger sides in the division. Now we need to really not let anything silly happen next week, as two 60 minute-ties, will make it tricky to pick up an expected six points. |
