The answer to our goal scoring problems is straight forward, we need to open our eyes!

"WHAT'S IT LIKE, WHAT'S IT LIKE, WHAT'S IT LIKE TO SCORE A GOAL ? ..... "

It's starting to get embarrassing, as the chants echo around Dundonald Rec, from our so called ever faithful following ".... score in a brothel, you couldn't score in a brothel! ..." that's three consecutive games without a solitary goal and now the fans are demanding a refund on their season tickets, it's goals we want, they cry, well they didn't see one in this fixture, but they were somewhat entertained. It actually wasn't that bad for a nil-nil.

So here we have a fixture between two clubs that are in a state of S.O.S., Mitcham had yet to get a point, it felt like we were yet to score a goal. Just try to envisage the celebrations at the end of the game, a really surreal experience, a load of nutty men going bananas in the fog, all because they've got a point. Can you imagine the sort of celebrations that could have followed, had a team won .... it's doesn't bear thinking about!

Goalless draws are a rarity at this level, our last one was of course that controversial match against Inter Class A Reserves, lets not dwell on that fixture! We should instead dwell on this game and take some positive out of it and Mitcham should as well to be fair. Rob's certainly happy that he kept his sheet clean, but it reflects well on our defence, but we really need to take a serious look at the problems that we have up front, it's been, wait for it, over 320 minutes since we last scored, now ask yourself, who and when, can you remember, no of course you can't ..... but Ed can !

Matches between the two sides always seem to be good encounters, there is that competitive but friendly rivalry, which gave the game that extra bite, not that you needed any extra bite, it was cold enough as it was! Luckily the playing conditions were ideal, the ground had thawed, the surface was soft and very playable, let battle commence.... The first half was fairly even, neither side had an abundance of chances, for ourselves Leroy had a good effort saved by the keepers legs, as well as a scramble, which ended up eventually being blasted over the bar by Ed. Mitcham broke the offside trap on a couple of occasions, including a glaring opportunity for their forward to score, in space, but heading over.

The second half was better, there were more opportunities for either side. For ourselves Ed had our best chance when his free kick from range clipped the post ... aggghh get in was the cry. Mitcham could easily have scored, only for Rob to make a great save with his legs, Pete made some great last ditch challenges along with Dan at the back to save us, Ed also cleared off the line, but towards the end, it got more frustrating as we just couldn't put the damn ball over the line, a succession of corners in the dying minutes, did no more than tease our forwards and the opposition, on one occasion, the ball literally went right across the face of the goal, it only needed the slightest of touches and it was in.

To be fair we don't concede many, but really struggle to score. We can look on this result in a positive light, in the knowledge that our defence wasn't breached. A bad run has sort of come to an end, but it really needs a win to end it once and for all. Lets regroup, focus on this Sunday's game with the Wombles and score some %$oo*y goals!
