| 10 November 2002 - Morden & District League Division 10 v. FC Torres (at Manor Park, New Malden) FC Torres 0 (0)
Kirk is about to get splattered, as a giant grapefruit falls from the sky Our good defensive record in the league, remained as we beat second in the table FC Torres for the third successive time without conceding. Our start to this game was impressive, as we went on the rampage from the start, taking complete control, somewhat against what we might have expected. Unfortunately, we didn't maintain the pace, hence failing to add to the two early strikes. The first came with the game just six minutes young, as Kirk slid in to give us our first away goal, since our match with .... FC Torres back in March (not including the double header v. SG Morden). Richie's first goal of the season, a header from Gunes' corner was just reward for our early possession. Again, although generally dominating, we didn't have the number of clear-cut chances to show for it. There were some great moves in the first half, Damien showed some electric pace and linked up well, to create Torres an abundance of problems, it's a shame that more goals didn't come from it. After Glenn and Matty were brought off in the second half, we seemed to momentarily go to pieces. We lost all shape and direction, as Torres could sense panic in the camp. Matt in goal, had to be alert to deal with a couple of efforts, as Torres started to find there way. We needed number three, just to make sure, but never got it. Richie desperately wants to score with his feet, but ballooned a couple of chances, with another one getting stuck in the mud! James had the best chance, as unmarked he put his header wide. In the end, number three wasn't needed, as we held on, to record two consecutive wins without conceding. A pleasing statistic, but the worrying issue is that we aren't killing games off. A positive highlight from todays game, was that in the absence of a referee, FC Torres provided a player, who refereed the game fairly. Something you don't often see. |
