9 March 2003 - Morden & District League Division 10 (at Dundonald Road Rec.) DCFC 1 (1)
Hopefully young 'Willie' hasn't been put off by today's dismal display What an absolute load of rubbish! What else can you say, after witnessing this diabolical performance and our heaviest league defeat on our usual pitch number 3 at Dundonald since November 1998 - our first season in the M&DSFL. Things always looked bad from the moment we realised that the referee wasn't turning up. Richie took responsibility of officiating and in all fairness to him, he did an excellent job. He was absolutely fair in his decisions and used more common sense then your average ref. He clearly wanted to play, but took responsibility of refereeing instead. (He was eventually replaced and subsequently played after 50 mins). This truly was a game of two halves. Now reading the opening paragraph you probably expected this to be a complete shambles right from the initial kick-off, that wasn't the case, we actually played quite well in the first half and this was reflected by us taking the lead fairly late on, when Springy pounced from Damien's cross, to notch up number 8 for the season. We probably just about deserved our half-time lead, as we shaded the possession and had the better of the chances. One of these chances also fell to Springy, as put through, beating the offside trap, he was only let down by his control as he over hit the ball, which subsequently headed goal bound, but was cleared off the line. Sutton had a similar opportunity, after James made an error, but made up for it well by clearing their effort off the line. At half-time it looked providing we didn't do anything silly, we should hold on to take all 3 points, but the second half just saw us play like a bunch of pansies. The defending was anything from average (at best) to woeful, a catalogue of errors, invited Heritage to give us a good old spanking. Shirin and James generally did well in the first half, but were as guilty as anyone, for letting Heritage through. Luck didn't quite go our way on the second goal, as the Sutton forwards who's shot from a well timed run, looked like it was well saved by Chara, but it just crept in off the post. From this point onwards Sutton made the most of our lackluster performance and won the game with ease. The most worrying thing about today, was that everyone looked in a complete trance. It was as if everyone had taken a puff of Kirk's spliff before the game, which chilled us all out. It certainly looked that way. No heart, no desire to win. It was as if there is nothing to play for. Hello, we can still come second, that was the idea! Now we have given Sutton the advantage, it is more or less in their hands now. They still have to play Roundshaw again, which going by form, you would expect them to lose, but that may not be enough, as they only need 4 points from their other 2 games, to guarantee second place, as their goal-difference is far superior to ours. It's so frustrating as we can play so much better than this. We're back to business on the 23rd March, lets do ourselves proud and finish on a high. |
