There's no getting away from it, it's time to address some serious issues, issues that have been lying dormant and slowly starting to rear there ugly heads. We need to be greedy, in fact just a little hungry and have a little more heart if we are ever going to achieve anything in this league. For those of you who remember Tuffy, he did try and inspire a little bit of that hunger, you may have laughed when he said "We should hunt in packs", but after this performance we looked more like a pack of cubs, walking the wild jungle, in search of their mums and dads, with very little clue on how to fight for ourselves and fight in the real world. No fight, no hunger, no desire, happy to turn up and tart around for 90 minutes and go home. If there was ever a game where three points were appetizingly put in front of us on a plate, only for us to have no hunger to digest them, then it was this one. We are so much better than this lackluster, uninteresting, uninspiring laxy daisy performance, if we were real predators, we would have torn into Sutton and killed this game off after 30 minutes, but oh no, we score an early goal, think that the sun shines out of our backsides and then wonder why we lose. 1-0 is not enough, 2-0 is not enough, 3-0 is not enough that's the sort of mentality we need to adopt. More, more, more we need to be hungry, don't play with the pray, kill it off! We do have at least one hunter in our team, a certain Mr. Lawless, has he ever had a game where he's gone 90 minutes without getting in a tussle. In particular with today's referee, who he has had many a conflict with in the past, in fact he's probably been cautioned every time that he's refereed and again it was only through a bit of sweet talking after the match, that he managed to get himself out of trouble. Young Dan is slowly starting to learn how to play the game. Unfortunately he is easily wound up by the opposition and then the tumultuous dynamo, fires up that temper and spins out of control, a real wild animal, a different breed to the rest of us, but in many ways, most of us could do with inheriting his competitive side. Scoring an early goal doesn't seem to do us many favours, it happened last week against the Royals and we lost 2-1 and this week, we scored in the opening minutes and lost 4-2. Instead of taking our feet off the pedals, we need to apply more pressure. We had more chances after this and at times, it looks that we are embarrassed to score goals. The strange thing is that as much as we are goal shy, we have now set a club record (DCFC) of scoring in our last 12 consecutive games ! The record for scoring in the most consecutive games, was 15 as DFC back in 1995. It always seems that other sides are quite happy to soak up the pressure and then score on the break. That's more or less what happened again today. Two of Sutton's goals were similar, they hit us on the counter, timed there runs well, creating that bit of extra space and were then able to finish well, past a poor old stranded Geoff in goal. Rob grabbed our goal early on, no doubt he'll be well relieved that he has managed to score for us at last! Before today he had only scored against us, in a pre-season friendly. Leo got nothing more than a consolation with a decisive strike late on. Come on you soppy lot, sort it out !
