8 May 2002 - Dundonald Groundsman Memorial

To those who remember Kevin the groundsman at Dundonald Rec., who passed away last year after a long fight with cancer, there is a ceremony to be held at Dundonald Recreation Ground on Saturday (11th May) at 11.00am to put in place a Memorial Bench in his memory.

Obviously I'm not expecting those who didn't know him to attend but I thought it a good opportunity to express my own sadness and I'm sure Kev H's, Chara's and Jel's to mention a few at his passing away. He was head groundsman at Dundonald from as long as I can remember, he was a real cockney, always telling kids to "piss off" when they ruined his goal mouths and cricket squares. He always held a strong relationship with our lads from our time growing up as kids right through to our first few seasons playing at Dundonald, we respected his job, and the respect returned our way. He kept the pitches and in fact the whole park in immaculate condition and was always very interested in finding out how we were doing, "always losing" was the answer.

God bless him, I will always remember him well. (Richie Wall)
