So another season draws to an end and we are left with the far to familiar task of attempting to avoid relegation, only this time we may have done enough, even before this game, as we were eight points from the bottom, before kick off. Today's victory should ensure that we won't be in the basement division of the Morden & District League. The league are seriously considering having a spring clean and removing some of the scum from the league. We can't be too cocky though as despite always doing well in terms of our sportsman's mark, we usually find that the number of cautions and sending's off that we collect, breach the leagues boundaries. This season, we should be safe. This was a good win by all accounts, especially as we weren't playing at our best, it wouldn't be unfair to call this a sloppy display. We've definitely played better this season, but then looking at our last performance, we've also played worse! Dan L scores plenty of goals considering he is a center back and notched up his fourth goal of the season with only a few minutes played. Leo like Dan gets more than his fair share and added to his tally of five, with a header from range, giving us that two goal cushion that we needed. We just about deserved it for having the majority of the possession, but Cheam were back in it, when Geoff, who played well up until now, fell fowl of a ball that bounced in front of him and despairingly tricked over the line. Leo restored the two goal advantage with a well directed header into the top corner and for the remainder of the half we continued to edge it. No sooner had the second half got underway, things got even more sloppy. We soon found ourselves back on level terms at 3-3 as Cheam broke down the right and their 'super-sub' scored within minutes of coming on, now we've all seen a few interesting ways to celebrate a goal, but credit has to go to him, for sticking his fingers down his throat and yakking up, never has anyone celebrated a goal in such style! Cheam then sniffed that the old dogs were beginning to show their vulnerabilities as a corner wasn't cleared and bam, almost a bicycle kick and it was 3-3. It was coming, we couldn't expect to win a game playing as sloppy as we were, luckily, we notched up a gear and started to create problems for our opposition. Adrian scored a good goal from just inside the box, then took a wallop in the goolies for his efforts - deep heat was definitely not the answer! then Damion showed more moments of magic in 20 minutes then the rest of the players on the pitch put together, scoring two quick goals, the second only required a gentle stroke into the corner with only the keeper to beat, but he opted for a fierce shot into the top corner instead, quality! On reflection, this was one of those rare games, where we got out of jail. We'll need to be more composed in our final encounter at home to Sutton Manor, in our last game of the 04/05 season. Let's finish it off in style!
