August 2002 - Battersea Ironsides 5-a-side
In the last 5-a-side competition
at Easter, we could consider ourselves unlucky for not qualifying, after
winning 3, drawing 2 and losing 1. This time round, we qualified after
winning 2, drawing 1 and losing 3, the main reason for this being that
all teams, except the side that finished bottom qualified for the next
round, our record, was as follows:
| SCORE |
OPPONENTS |
MATCH REPORT SUMMARY |
| 2-0 |
Mitcham Strollers |
A comfortable victory,
against one of our opponents this season (division 10) |
| 0-1 |
Thornton Heath |
Let ourselves down, by not
finishing this lot off early on and felt unlucky at the end. |
| 0-1 |
St Aslem |
With a semi-pro player contributing
to these eventual winners efforts, this was a very respectable result. |
| 0-0 |
Hawker A |
These eventual semi-finalists
were outplayed for two thirds of the game, but were kept in it by
a combination of woodwork and goalkeeper. |
| 4-1 |
Harpers |
The poorest team in our group,
were met with our poorest performance at the back, but an Ed Hanlon
hat-trick sorted 'em out |
| 0-1 |
Inter City |
This lot topped our group,
having beaten St. Aslem. Fergie worked hard to stop an onslaught,
generally a tired but satisfactory performance. |
Then in the next round we met Parkside
and lost 2-0.
As we were now tired, we faced the
competitions top scorer who had 12 goals already to his name and obliged
with two more .... home time !
